'I'M BETTER OFF!' Vs 'AM I BETTER OFF?'

Two friends, 

One ahead in Philosophical Path of life 

And 

The other struggling to establish in that direction 

Visited an Ashram on a day..

The Master of the Ashram blessed them and advised them to continue their respective livings more rigorously..

Few years passed..  

Both friends happened to meet the Master once again together on an auspicious day..

The Master said to one who earlier was struggling to establish in Philosophical Path, 

“You made good progress!”

He said to the other who was ahead earlier, 

“Why have you gone back?”

Both friends looked at Master astonished..

The Master smiled and said, 

“When you both visited me earlier, 

One of you was ahead in this Path 

And 

The other was lagging behind.. 

Now as I see,

The one ahead in this Path came down as the feeling of pride in him, 

‘I am better off!’

Made him lose what he had earlier.. 

But

The other lagging behind moved up as the ever question in him

'Am I better off?' 

Kept him progressing constantly even though bit by bit!"
