A FEW MUSINGS ON POTATO.. THE WIDELY LOVED FOOD!

The Little One was too naughty and fussy. On the day, the mom became angry and stopped talking to him for a while, he straight away asked his dad,

"Dad! Why's mommy not talking to me?"

"She is angry dear! Don't worry she'll talk when she cools down!"

Assured the dad..

The next day, the mom boiled a potato for the Little Boy, left it on the table telling him,

"Let the potato cool down. Then you can eat!"

The Boy instantly exclaimed,

"Oh! The potato is angry!"

And my story of potato starts there..

** Way back 1985, I was in Lucknow.. That winter evening, as I went to the Vegetable Market nearby to buy my vegetables and fruits, I saw the potato seller selling potatoes at throw away price as there was a bumper crop that winter but

What amused me for the first time in my life was the potato seller was sitting on the mini mountain of potatoes, taking out the potatoes from the top and weighing constantly, with his assistant on the ground taking the weighed stuff and putting into the bags of the buyers..

Thanks to Mother Nature for giving potato crop in such abundance that year..

** In 2011 when I visited Dusseldorf, Germany on personal visit for a stay of 3 months, it was my job to get daily groceries, vegetable and fruits from near by shop..

On the first day, with almost nil knowledge of German Language and the locals speaking English sparingly, it was tough time for me to know the vegetables and their prices. But when I saw the potatoes bag and I checked the price tag on that and I could never believe it right as the price marked there was 1 Euro for 4 kg bag..

Almost the same price of potatoes in Bangalore at that point of time..

Later I came to know that Germans love potatoes and potatoes are grown plenty in Germany..

** The famous proverbs on potatoes are:

Potato grows in silence; iron rusts in silence.

-- Malay Proverb

It is easy to halve the potato where there is love.

-- Irish Proverb

A man who prides himself of his ancestry is like a potato plant, the best part of it is underground.

 -- Spanish Proverb

A lucky person is he who harvests pebbles and reaps potatoes..

-- Greek Proverb

Health? Very nice.. Where will we get potatoes?

-- Yiddish Proverb

** During recent lockdowns, as we prepared to store essentials against shortages, apart mainly from staple foods like rice and wheat we decided to include

Potatoes too as basic energizing food!

The Post is written in line with this week's IndSpire Prompt Potato and you. Write an essay. As many words as you please. The genre you choose. Potato must be the hero. #Potato
