One had come to that level through his hard work, maturity and goodness. The other rose to that level through influence and muscle power indirectly..
Before finalizing on the selection, the king wanted to test them by giving a trivial problem to both and see how they solve the same independently..
That day morning, he called both the contestants and asked them to go to the opposite street and buy from the small Food Vendor on the roadside his entire turnover for the day..
That day morning, he called both the contestants and asked them to go to the opposite street and buy from the small Food Vendor on the roadside his entire turnover for the day..
The matured official straight way said he could and would never do it. The other who believed all his life in getting anything with money and power, quickly went there to finish the job. In no time, he brought the man handcuffed to the king. The king got horrified at this and with profuse repentance left him immediately. He subsequently looked at the calm contestant observing all this and said,
“You are going to be my Minister!”
The other official was frowning and was about to burst out in anger over the selection..
The king looked at him and said sternly,
The king looked at him and said sternly,
“My dear! I've nothing against you except to say that you are not fit for this job. Further, I've a doubt whether you are fit in the present position too. I am sorry to say this..”
With this he continued,
With this he continued,
“The first duty of a ruler is not to disturb the life of a common man at any cost. Secondly, all great economics are based on the sum total contributions of these small Vendors working around us day and night. We in power in fact, have to worship their works..
How did you expect that the Vendor would sell his turnover for the day to you? He has one skill learnt from his childhood that might have been be handed over to him by his parent. He improved it systematically over a long period of time and built around him his own dedicated Customers who daily depend on him for their food requirement..
He keeps them with him by his quality food served in time at a price they feel it is worth paying. With such a 'Gold' in front, no one would sell it for any price to a single Customer for the day displeasing all his regular and dependable Customers. At most, you will get your one share only that too if available...."
While leaving, the King said,
While leaving, the King said,
"You might have offered him huge money or showed your muscle power on him. But he becomes nothing soon, if he does not do his job even for a single day and relaxes with your extra money or listens to you!
Even with your extra money, he can't retrain himself on any other job at his age and time. Thus you were about to devastate a most important asset of a humble individual and that of a Nation!"

DeleteWorthy piece. We all are interdependent. you said it aptly that this is the only skill he has and he will not lose it.Both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics are important for us all to survive.
ReplyDeleteVery rightly said in this context and there alone lies creation of true wealth for the individual as well as for the nation. Thanks for the good comment on the post. Wishes!
