“Are you traveling for the first time, Sir?”
Looking at his somewhat odd behavior, the co-passenger asked.. The man replied,
“May be, but no issues!"
“No problem, Sir.. I’ll help you on whatever you want. You should always remember that well before the Aircraft takes off, you should always do these 2 activities which you did..
Please relax.. The Aircraft will soon take off and we will be into skies!”
Said the co-passenger with a smile..
"I know!"
Said the man nodding his head indicating indirectly that he didn't need any help..
The Aircraft started taxiing the long way. Meanwhile, the Cabin Crew checked all the passengers for seat belts and seats adjusted to the vertical position and moved to their seats..
Soon the Aircraft entered the main runway and in few minutes, with the engines roaring delivering full thrust, picked up speed and smoothed into skies..
In sometime, the seat belt signs were off with the aircraft reaching the cruising height. In another half hr, some refreshments were served..

The co-passenger gently said,
“The level flight continues for 1 and 1/2 hrs. During this time, you can freely move around, visit the rest rooms and stretch yourself except in times when the Aircraft experiences turbulence. At that time, the seat belt sign switches on and you have to come back to your seat!”
"Yeah.. I know.. I see people moving!"
The journey was smooth and having traveled all the distance to the destination, the Aircraft started descending and landing preparations were on..
“Sir! We'll soon touch the ground. The Aircraft has started descending and as landing is the toughest part of flying, many precautions will be taken before that. Now, we should put on our belts and sit erect till the whole operation of landing is completed. During this time, all window shutters are to be kept up to see outside clearly!”
Reminded the co-passenger. The man was not interested in all that talk but could not say anything and without paying attention to him pulled his belt and adjusted his seat vertical..
In no time, the announcement for landing was made after the Crew checked the passengers for adhering to the safety rules and moved to their seats. In few minutes the Aircraft approached the runway with the gear down locked in position..
The man was constantly looking outside through the window next to the gentleman from his seat as the Aircraft shortly passed through low level clouds with few shakes and was into the visible area from where in the day light the ground was clearly seen..
The co-passenger thought the man might be tensed up listening to the sounds of landing gear coming down and getting locked and gently said,
"Sir! They take so much care in designing, manufacturing, testing and flying the aircraft. When we too put in our discipline and follow the rules laid out while traveling, together we can make Air Travel safe and pleasant.. What do you, say?"
The man silently nodded in affirmation but sat tight in his seat and was seeing the ground nearing through the window. It was just the touch point and the ground was clearly seen rushing back at great speed with the forward motion of the Aircraft. The co-passenger was readying himself for the light jolt of touch down..

what a well written story! I could actually visualize the man being scared, yet annoyed at his co-passenger. You have penned the first time fears of the traveler in a very apt manner. I was expecting a different ending although, nevertheless, look forward to tomorrow's post.
