The friend was at the doorstep in the early morning hrs..
“Are you ready with your bags? Min 5 are required!”
"I'm ready.. What's the evening program?”
“No great program.. Salary is coming in the lorry.. After taking ours in our bags, we'll straight head to food store and buy items with long shelf life!”
“What about the rest of the money?”
"They are just bundles of cash and nothing great we get out of that. Now since banks are shut, the balance we'll keep in our homes!”
“I feel very bad for the situation. When will it improve?”
“God only knows. At least we are not starving!"
In the evening while returning, we entered the restaurant and ordered our favorite chai and biscuit..
“See, the numbers on display? Too big figures changing very fast!”
“Yeah! The price will change quite a bit from the time we order our chai to the time we finish it. OK! Let's finish our chai faster. The numbers are jumping a bit fast today and already crossed the limit expected!”
We soon paid a big bill for 2 cups of chai and 2 biscuits, came out and headed homewards with bags of cash on our bicycles..
The dreaded dream was over and I suddenly woke up sweating profusely my heart beating very fast. The time was 6 AM with morning twilight seen in the horizon thru’ the window followed by twittering noises of early morning birds..
I took some time to come to senses and feel my surroundings. As I slowly turned on bed, I saw the book next to me and instantly recollected reading about
- Lockdowns,
- Curfews,
- Strict restrictions on movements,
- Bad weather conditions,
- Mild ill healths,
- Continued family issues,
- Temporary dislocations,
- Non availability of certain services and
- The more related constraints

DEDICATED WORK OF MINE
Should go on
NON-STOP
It was a bit scary seeing how money had little value other than buying food and that too at exorbitant rates.
ReplyDeleteYes, Sona.. That was the exact situation in Germany when hyperinflation stuck the country and the then currency Mark lost its value.. Always in any economy, cash in circulation should match with goods and services available.. Too much currency and fewer goods and services causes that problem.. The only right solution here is productive work should never stop.. Thanks for the good observation on the Post.. Wishes!
DeleteAn interesting post indeed...
