Pitfalls of 'Extra Pleasing'....

One of our old Sayings retold with extra explanations....

A man working for a Master used to get up in the early morning, prepare himself fully to report for duty along with a beautiful Rose specially picked up for the Master, present him the same and start his Work.... And that he made his daily routine in the mornings ....

Slowly over a period of time, he found that his Master was not that much happy with the flower as he used to be in the beginning.... Even though the man started selecting the best flower to give him, the Master stopped paying attention to all that and started pointing out some of his earlier day mistakes at Work....

Soon, the man started spending more attention in selecting the flower, wrap it nicely and give to the Master.... And he used to do all his work too with utmost attention.... For a few days the Master was OK but soon again he started pointing out and scolding him often for certain fictitious lapses....

The man thus was sad....

On one of those days, he happened to meet a friend of him after the Work.... The friend had seen his sad face and enquired him about that.... The man kept quiet for a while but beyond that could not control his feelings.... He thus told him the whole happenings at his Work daily....

The friend heard everything patiently.... He looked at him for some time, smiled and asked him, “What basic tasks are you supposed to do daily at your Master's Premises?” The man explained in brief all the tasks that he had to do daily....

The friend asked, “Is your Master’s day really smooth with the completion of all these tasks?”

“Yes.... To my knowledge, he has no problem” the man replied....

The friend asserted, “I feel you are doing your job well.... Tell me one thing.... Is it one of your duties to give a flower too to your Master daily when you report for Work?”

The man looked bewildered with the question....

“Yes! My dear! Here, you started doing something extra beyond your duty thinking that you can please your Master more in that way.... Seeing this quite for some time, he had taken you for granted and started showing his anger easily on you.... He assumed that you will not give back easily.... Thus you wanted to please him extra and that worked initially but is not working anymore and in fact is working against you now....  Of course, there is no point in giving back to the Master as you yourself wanted the job and that way you should be careful here not to hurt him.... Had you understood the correct 'Master Servant Relation' in the beginning itself and acted accordingly, this problem would not have come up to you at all in your life!”
